IDW Music in Graphic Novels

Music is part of our daily lives in some way or another, whether it’s working out, relaxing, or getting work done. Being able to learn the story behind our favorite songs or artists tends to gives their music more meaning. Next month IDW presents 2 books that give a behind the scenes of a popular music video and the life of a unique rock band. Pearl Jam: Art of Do the Evolution a behind the scenes look one of their most creative music videos and Redbone: The True Story of A Native American Rock Band.

Twenty-two years after legendary rock band Pearl Jam debuted their Grammy Award-nominated “Do The Evolution” music video, its hypnotic and shocking imagery is perhaps even more relevant to social and environmental issues than during the band’s 1998 Yield tour. For those that have watched the Guardians of the Galaxy movie or remember the opening theme for F is for Family on Netflix will want to know the story of the band Redbone a story of cultural, political, and social importance.  

Directed by comics legend Todd McFarlane (Spawn) and veteran animator Kevin Altieri (Batman: The Animated Series), this achievement in animation told a graphic and dark history of the world in four gripping minutes and is widely considered one of the best music videos of all time.

Pearl Jam: Art of Do The Evolution is a 200-page, full-color hardcover revealing the full story behind the creation of this historic video. Lushly illustrated by the video's striking animation cells with never before seen storyboards and designs from the video, the video's co-producer, Joe Pearson, will guide readers through the fascinating process of bringing the band's vision to life in this one-of-a-kind art book. Redbone: The True Story of a Native American Rock Band is an intriguing, historically accurate telling of the high-flying career of rock ‘n’ roll pioneers and talented brothers Pat and Lolly Vegas, as they influenced The Doors, jammed with Jimmy Hendrix before he was “Jimi,” and took the 1960s Sunset Strip by storm.

Pearl Jam: Art of Do The Evolution and Redbone: The True Story of A Native American Rock Band are now available for pre-order via online booksellers and comic book specialty retailers. Set for release in October 2020.
