GKIDS ACQUIRES RIGHTS TO "PROMARE"

The first feature-length film from the acclaimed Studio TRIGGER, creators of the hit series KILL la KILL and Little Witch Academia, and director Hiroyuki Imaishi (GURREN LAGANN, KILL la KILL), PROMARE uses a bold cel-shaded visual style to tell a blistering action-adventure story, and is the spiritual successor to many of director Imaishi's former works.

GKIDS announced it has acquired the North American distribution rights for the animated feature PROMARE. GKIDS will release the film theatrically in both Japanese and an all new English language version in 2019. This marks the first feature film from Studio TRIGGER, founded by former studio Gainax animator and director Hiroyuki Imaishi. The film's rights are being sold worldwide by Toho and the all-rights deal for North America was negotiated by GKIDS' CEO and Founder Eric Beckman and Akihiro Takeda for Toho.

"Studio TRIGGER has proved to be the ultimate risk-takers, pushing the limits of visual storytelling time and time again. GKIDS is thrilled to bring their feature film debut to North American audiences." -GKIDS President David Jesteadt

While Studio Trigger has released short films in the past, PROMARE is the studio's first full length feature film. The partnership with GKids allows the movie to be in more American theaters, even if it's for a few days, as well as Blu-ray releases that will appear sooner in American markets. It may not be the hype that was Into The Spider-verse, but Studio TRIGGER has the American Fan Base that will give the film some success in the movie theaters. Plus this will only stoke the hype for the upcoming Gurren Lagaan X Darling In the Franxx crossover that Studio TRIGGER teased earlier in the year.

GKIDS and Fathom Events continue their collaboration to bring exciting all new animated features to U.S. cinemas, presenting the PROMARE special premiere event to U.S. cinemas nationwide on September 17 and 19. GKIDS will be releasing PROMARE theatrically starting September 20.
