The creators of the popular Oh Joy Sex Toy comics, Erika Moen and Matthew Nolan, have teamed up with Limerence Press once again to
create Drawn to Sex: The Basics, a new series that is specifically geared toward
approachable and fun sex education. Drawn to Sex exclusively covers sex
education; making it ideal for educators, parents, and even young adults. This is
the first installment of a three-book series, Drawn to Sex: The Basics is currently
available online or at your local book retailer. Erika Moen is a veteran of nearly 20 years in the comics
industry. She is best known for the sex toy review/sex education series Oh Joy
Sex Toy. Her work focuses on sex, sexuality, identity, and fart jokes. Matthew Nolan is has been helping
make sex education comics for the past five years and still going.
I fiercely believe that all bodies regardless of shape or
ability deserve to feel pleasure. We all deserve good sex and this book brings
this message home in the form or well-drawn pictures and scenarios. This book
is simple but very much to the point with its core mission to get you into the
habit of safer sex practices in a way that's exciting and engaging. Regardless of
age or experience level each chapter/topic offers the reader something useful
or insightful.
The book is broken up into 4 main topics, each going over
in detail the various topics that come up in sex: Sex The Concept: Includes topics such as Consent & Am I ready?, Doin’ It Safely: Goes over topics like
IUDs & Condoms and even Sexting, Doin’
It With Yourself: Includes topics such as Sexual Fantasies & Sexual
Response Cycles, Doin’ It With Other
People: Includes Mutual Masturbation, Oral & Intercourse. I thoroughly
enjoyed the explanations this book gave on things regarding sex. As a society
especially in America we have a warped sense of how, when, where, and who we
talk with regarding sex. I wish this book existed when I was growing up as I
feel like it would have really made navigating the world of sex a lot easier.
As a woman, I am completely blown away by the scope of information provided in
these quirky comics.
This book is a refreshing take on a longtime taboo subject. In these 160 pages, there is something new for everyone to learn regardless of gender and orientation. If you're a curious young adult or even an adult looking for ways to bring something new into your bedroom this book is sure to point you in the right direction and a safe way that's enjoyable for all parties involved.
