NYCC: Voltron The Final Season

Honerva formerly The Witch Haggar

During NY Comic Con, at the Hammerstein Ballroom, fans anxiously awaited a sneak peek at the final season of Voltron Legendary Defender. DreamWorks Animation Television gave fans just that and shared the season 8 premiere date: December 14, 2018. Season 7 saw the formation of Earth's new defense force, as well as left fans with more questions as it was revealed that the power core for latest RoBeast was another Altean. Which begs the question: "What did happen to all the Alteans that Lotor kept hidden?"

Which brings us to the Season 8 series finale:

After saving the Earth, the Paladins embark to prevent Honerva from setting into motion her deadliest plan yet. It’s a race against the clock as the Voltron Coalition gathers from the corners of the galaxy to defend the universe once and for all.

After 8 great season of this legendary show, it is sad to see it go. The storytelling and characters gave Voltron new life and will definitely leave fans wanting more. Rumors of course have sprung up that Vehicle Force Voltron may be what's next from Dreamworks TV. When you consider the original plan for Voltron when it was brought to the states to have 3 different Voltron teams, in an attempt to sell toys, it seems like that is something that could be plausible. But with the way things ended in Season 7, I think they have already established the "Voltron" teams in sense without having to do 3 teams of combining robots. Instead you have Lion Voltron, The MFE (Mega-Flex Exofighters) Ares Fighters, and of course the surprise of the season, the transforming flying base IGF Atlas.

Teaser images from the series finale give us Honerva (above) in her more Altean form that she attained after entering the temple on Oriande. The Paladins are sporting a military style uniform when they aren't in their regular Voltron pilot uniforms. They looking more mature and ready for what comes next. What that next will be remains to be seen.

Panel Guest Included: Executive producers Joaquim Dos Santos and Lauren Montgomery were joined by voice talent Bex Taylor-Klaus (Pidge), Jeremy Shada (Lance), Josh Keaton (Shiro), Kimberly Brooks (Allura) and Story Editor Josh Hamilton
