NYCC: Anime Fest

On July 14, ReedPOP announced that it was partnering with The Society for the Promotion of Japanese Animation (SPJA) to launch Anime Fest @ NYCC x Anime Expo. The four-day event will take place at Pier 94 from October 4-7 and provide fans the ultimate East Coast anime festival and celebration of Japanese pop culture.

Fans will join Japanese guests, prolific artists, and other New York Otaku at a festival of autograph signings, cosplay, Instagram-worthy activations, a curated Artist Alley, live music, and creative Japanese pop culture classes.

Calling all NYCC Otakus, this October we’re launching a first-ever anime collab - Anime Fest @ NYCC x @AnimeExpo! A full 4 day festival that celebrates anime, manga, cosplay, artists, J-pop, + more in Japanese culture. Badges on sale THIS Sunday! More info: Anime Fest @ NYCC x AX

As more and more news came out it was clear that this would be a separate event from NY Comic Con. So while it does seem like an option for those that don't want to go through the crowds of NYCC and just enjoy, a possibly, less crowded con it still begs the questions: Why do it during NY Comic Con? and Why not let those who bought a NYCC ticket have free access to the new con?

Tickets sale prices are:
  • Tickets for Thursday, October 4 cost US$20 (US$15 for those who have NYCC tickets already)
  • Tickets for Friday, October 5 cost US$20 (US$15 for those who have NYCC tickets already)
  • Tickets for Saturday, October 6 cost US$25 (US$20 for those who have NYCC tickets already)
  • Tickets for Sunday, October 7 cost US$25 (US$20 for those who have NYCC tickets already)
  • Tickets for "Sunday Kids" cost US$10
Prices are quite favorable but no weekend passes. Most tickets for NYCC ticket holders have pretty much sold out, it won't be long before we hear thoughts on the new con. Whether or not it was meant to compete with AnimeNYC is up for speculation.
