Coming Soon: Puma x Sega RS-0 Sonic

Entertainment Earth

In another shoe collaboration, SEGA’s iconic Sonic the Hedgehog joins forces with Puma’s all-new RS-0 sneaker. PUMA is launching the new RS-0 shoe, which is a reboot of their classic 80’s Running System (RS) that initially featured tech-savvy innovations meant to improve the wearer’s running performance. Most recently Adidas announced their collaboration with the Dragon Ball Z franchise, and previously we've seen Dr Martens collab with Franchises like Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and the Adventure Time Series.
This is a first for Sega going into the sneaker market, but at the same time it's almost an about time. Sonic the Hedgehog is one of the most iconic video game characters out there and best known for his speed; and what better way to depict that than with sneakers.

“This latest partnership with Puma affords us the opportunity to move the Sonic franchise into the realm of highly exclusive sport lifestyle footwear and expose the brand to a whole new audiences” -Jason Rice, director of brand licensing of Sega Europe

For many fans Sega made history when they allowed their character Sonic to appear and compete with Nintendo's Mario in such games as Sonic & Mario at the Olympics and the ever popular Super Smash Bros franchise. So Sonic getting his own sneaker is another notch on the belt of the Sega brand.

The sneaker itself has yet to be fully revealed, but the pixelated image released by Puma gives fans a good idea of what to expect. The sneaker will be mainly blue on top, red bottoms, white stripes on the side, green highlights, and possibly a gold Puma logo. I'm sure there are some fans who would want a sneaker that is closer to the actual shoes that sonic wears, but in reality when you try to pair that with Puma sneaker it looks more generic. This stylized version gives it that uniqueness that any fan would want in a Sonic the Hedgehog sneaker.

“We’re excited to be able to partner with such a fun and innovative brand with a long–standing history in popular culture. We are one with Sega in always pushing the boundaries forward and are very proud of the fantastic result of this collaboration.” -Adam Petrick, director for brand and marketing at Puma - Online Shopping for Digital Codes, Video Games, Toys, Music, Electronics & more
