IMG's Worlds of Legends theme park coming soon

Entertainment Earth

As kid growing up summer vacation was the greatest time of the year second to Christmas. No school meant more time to hang out with friends and of course family trips. With places like Six Flags, Disney World, and Universal Studios there was plenty of places to visit which meant a lot of time spent in a car with your family members for hours on end. Each theme park offers a variety of rides and activities for the family in their own unique way; which made it hard at times to choose which theme park you wanted to visit that summer. Then of course you have to take into account the weather, which makes planning out your trip in advance even more difficult.

Dubai has solved this issue with not one, but 2 indoor theme parks. The first being IMG Worlds of Adventure, an indoor amusement park in the United Arab Emirates in Dubai. It is Dubai’s first mega themed entertainment destination. Divided into four "epic zones"; Two of the four zones represent global brands Cartoon Network and Marvel, while IMG Boulevard and the Lost Valley Dinosaur Adventure zones are original concepts created by the IMG Group. IMG Worlds of Adventure is the largest temperature controlled indoor themed entertainment destination in the world, covering an area in excess of 1.5 million square feet, and the capacity to welcome more than 20,000 guests a day.

In December they announced the opening their second largest indoor theme park, at 2 million square ft: IMG Worlds of Legends. Like its predecessor it will feature various zones, each with their own unique themes. Because it is an indoor theme park it will operate throughout the year unlike the majority of theme parks in the United States, so weather be damned. It has been reported that the park will feature a temperature-controlled environment and that there will be retractable roofs across large sections of the parks to let the sunshine in on those beautiful sunny days and allowing for year-round comfort throughout Dubai’s varying seasons. The two parks will connect via a sky bridge, and guest will be able to purchase tickets to either park or a multi-park pass at the sky bridge. There is no time table for when they will begin breaking ground on this. No ride specifics have been given either. The precise costs for the new park would be revealed once it's construction schedule has been agreed upon.

According to official information released by IMG, the park will have 'futuristic interactive roller coasters, state-of-the-art rides, breathtaking water-based attractions, and live entertainment. It has been reported that there will be 9 zones; 7 licensed themed zones and 2 IMG original zones:

  • Nickelodeon:  Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Dora the Explorer, SpongeBob SquarePants

  • Ubisoft:  Assassin’s Creed, Raving Rabbids, Just Dance

  • Saban Brands:  Saban’s Power Rangers

  • Pokémon: TBD

  • Mattel:  Barbie doll, Hot Wheels, Bob the Builder, Thomas & Friends, Mega Bloks

  • The Animé Zone:  Toei Animation: Dragon Ball Z and One Piece, TV TOKYO: Naruto

  • Cartoon Network:  We Bare Bears, Other hit and classic brands yet to be revealed

  • IMG Worlds’ proprietary brands:  Legends of Arabia & Lost Valley: Dinosaur Adventure

Lennard Otto, the chief executive of IMG Worlds stated that the IMG Worlds’ proprietary brands would be “the first Middle Eastern-themed brand to come to any theme park in the world". The list of licensed may not be the final list and could change as construction begins or by the time it ends. But seeing what they have now does make this a theme park worth keeping an eye on. While for us in the states this may seem like overkill to go to a theme park, I honestly feel it gives you the opportunity to visit a place that has more to it than just going to the theme park and your hotel. It allows you to explore another country and their culture.
